Very easy to set up, wireless remote uses AA batteries and thermometer uses AAA batteries. 2 screw (Included) mounting bracket for remote sensor. Follow instructions for installing batteries and you will have no problems with the set up. I have tested the thermometers reading against the local weather reports and its dead on the same. It is very accurate. Another nice feature that I like is the large readings. Buy one, you will not be disappointed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL NEW USERS!
I have read a few negative reviews on this product from people who obviously didn’t bother to READ the instruction manual before setting up this system for the first time.
It clearly says in the manual that you need to put the batteries in the external sensor FIRST! Wait 30 SECONDS, THEN install the batteries in the base station! If you fail to follow this order and install the batteries into the base station before the external sensor is powered up and running, the external temp will not display on the base station. Hard to believe that someone would return a product without bothering to check to make sure they were doing things right, but this kind of stupidity happens all the time. ;o)
My Review:
I bought this to monitor the internal temperature of the rain gauge housing of my Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station. During the winter I install a custom made rain bucket heater that is designed to melt the snow or freezing rain that accumulates in the collection bucket. I wanted to be able to monitor the internal temperature of the rain bucket so that I could see how hot the heater was keeping the tipping bucket area, and also to see how warm this housing gets during the summer when things can get VERY HOT in there.
The base station of this system is nice and narrow, and takes up very little table top space. This allowed me to stand this base right next to my Davis VP2 console which is why I didn’t just use one of my Oregon Scientific mini weather stations.
The external sensor is a bit on the LONG side, so I was worried that it may not fit inside the rain bucket of the VP2, but I was pleased to discover that it fit in there just fine with room to spare!
)
So… For the very reasonable price of this package, I really don’t think you could go wrong. You can also buy additional sensors so that you could monitor temp data from several places in your yard or in your house.
Great job LaCrosse!

I didn’t buy this thermometer to monitor indoor and outdoor temperatures, I bought it as a piece of test equipment! I have a SPA that normally controls the water temperature to a preset level, 93 degrees in this case. Recently, I checked the SPA and found that the water temperature was 107 degrees!! This indicates that either the topside temperature setting controller has failed or that the underneath heater controller has failed in addition to consuming more energy than I would like to pay for. (There is a max overheat shutdown circuit so I was pretty sure that the SPA would not catch on fire.) Each of the two controller panels cost at least $300, plus a $75 service call, to replace. It was not even clear which of the two panels was at fault so I wanted to replace the right unit the first time. Moreover, the problem seems to be intermittent. Right now, everything is okay. But I don’t want to go out, open the SPA, and check the temperature forever to see if the thing is malfunctioning again. As a retired Electrical Engineer, I envisioned building a temperature-monitoring circuit that would alert me if the temperature rose again. But, this would have cost some money and experimentation, and then, how does one monitor? Instead of building something, I purchased this thermometer for less than $20. I put the remote under the SPA (a dry area). Without worrying about the exact temperature, I see that the temperature is about what the SPA is set for - 93 degrees. Every now and then, I check the MAX/MIN function to see if the outside temperature has EVER been much more than this. Everything looks okay for now. The thermometer worked fine out of the box and has a nice, large, easily readable, display that I keep near my home computer. The distance between the remote and the display unit is about 30 feet.

Contrary to other reviewers, I do know how to READ, and read the manual carefully. I followed the instructions several times, even trying to reset to synchronize the units. I then went to the website, where the instructions were slightly different, and still I could not get the units to work. I am using the proper batteries…they are brand new and plain alkaline. I have also had similar wireless units from a different company and they worked fine.
I wasted two hours trying to get this to work. I can’t even get the LCD screen to show anything. It’s going back. What a waste of my time.
This was part of an order of three different items. Two of the items are going back..one was damaged. What has happened to the quality of the products that Amazon.com sells?
