What’s Your Favorite Soccer Quotes?
Billion soccer fanatics around the globe follow soccer news in every leagues and every tournament. Many names from the newsmaker are very well-known and they take turn to get on the center stage. From the player, coach, club owner, and official from soccer governing body have their own stories and quotes. Those who made their name became legendary have some memorable soccer quotes.
Sir Alex Ferguson who recently cited as the longest serving League manager insists, “The philosophy of a lot of European teams, even in home matches, is not to give a goal away.” Well, he is very successful in Manchester United anyway. If you don’t like Fergie, perhaps you like his old foe, Arsene Wenger.
The Frenchman manages Fergie club’s archrival, Arsenal. For record winning he could not compete Fergie, but he brought some names to the highest level such as Emmanuel Petit, Marc Overmars, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry at old times.
Currently he brings Csec Fabregas as a top player. Certainly he is happy when Arsenal relocated from its old Highbury Stadium to the Emirates. According to him, “It is a lot of money and will improve the natural potential of the club by 50 per cent when it is paid back. That puts us to the level of Manchester United.”
Pele has his own quotes. He said, “Brazilian soccer player, considered possibly world’s greatest.” Well, it had proven by five times World Champion. Many greatest players came from Brazil. Zico, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Carlos Dida, Roberto Carlos, and Ricardo Kaka are among others.
Mostly soccer quotes are about winning. According to Wayne Bridge, “If you don’t concede any goals you’ll win more games than you lose.” Former England goalkeeper, Peter Shilton had another idea, “You’ve got to believe that you’re going to win, and I believe we’ll win the World Cup until the final whistle blows and we’re knocked out.”
Remember Italian legend Paolo Rossi? As we know that the Italian style’s Catenaccio is antithesis from Dutch’s style Total Voetball. Rossi said, “The Dutch change positions quicker than you can make a cup of coffee.” The Dutch philosophy is about the best defense is attack and in Italian style, soccer played by emphasis in defense.
And according to the one of the hottest coach in the world, José Mourinho, “You can have the top stars to bring the attention, you can have the best stadium, you can have the best facilities, you can have the most beautiful projects in terms of marketing and all this kind of thing. But if you don’t win… all the work these people are doing is forgotten.”
Well, soccer is wonderful game. Everything is complicated by the presence of the opposite team. No wonder former Mexican goalkeeper Hugo Sanchez quoted whoever invented football should be worshipped as a God.
