For the first months of the war, the First US WW2 Uniform was very similar to that worn by the American Expeditionary Corps in the First World War. Of course, the stand-up collar, a feature common to most uniforms of the period, was replaced by a soft open collar revealing shirt and tie, and puttes gave away to gaiters or stiff canvas leggings, but these minor changes hardly made the battledress more practical. They still wore a British-style helmet and, for a relatively brief period, the awkward boy-scout style hat.
