This particular pistol is the German made “Luger model P-08” which is famous for its accuracy & high quality, which made it a high valued war souvenir to Allied soldiers.
Pistole -08, are also often called as ”Parabellum Pistolle -08” by the Germans is 9 mm Luger/ Parabellum (9X19mm) caliber self loading pistol, which developed from Pistole-00 series which manufactured in 7.65mm (.32”) caliber bullet.
The semi automatic recoil operated Luger P-08 is designed by Georg J.Luger in 1900 from the delayed blow back recoil system which invented by Hugo Borchardt tahun 1893.
P-08 Luger is adopted by German Imperial Army & Navy in 1908 & became standard pistol of German Armed Forces up to 1938 which replaced by cheaper & easier to produce Walther P-38 series pistols.
P-08 Luger have produced in several versions, standard version, extended version (Navy) & short barrel version. The Nekktere Model have removable shoulder stock & can use 32 rounds drum (snail) magazine . Before the World War II, P-08 Luger also licensed to Vickers (UK) for commercial gun, therefore many Lugers are used by the British Navy & Dutch Army.
The characteristic of P-08 Luger is quite amazing, in addition to its high accuracy , its delayed blow back system left very little gun powder residue to the gun . As we already know, accumulated gun powder residue will foul up the gun’s mechanism & jammed it.
Although the production cost of P-08 Luger is high, this pistol is very powerfull and highly accurate . Up to this time, gun collectors & militaria lovers still hunts this pistol and its accessories, such as magazine, drum magazine, holster etc.
Since its first official use (1908) up the end of World War II, more than 2.5 million P-08 Luger have been produced, it is a fantastic record for its time.
