With the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout® scheduled on Nov. 19, the smoking cessation program offers a great opportunity for smokers to commit to quitting. Held every third Thursday of November, the event encourages people to stop using tobacco.

Statistics show that cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death. In the United States, cigarette smoking is responsible for approximately one in five deaths annually.
