The book opens with an overview of Balinese architecture in its human context--the village. It the

Review by Krishna A. Pribadi for Architecture of Bali: A Source Book of Traditional and Modern Forms (Latitude 20 Books)
Rating:
This book is very comprehensive in terms of display of photographs, sketches of layouts, and historical descriptions and usage of structures or built space. I have lived in Indonesia for 11 year on a neighboring island, Java. And I do have to say that this book is written with great passion promoting the traditional Balinese culture.
My fiance is an architect and she would recommend this book for architecture student to increase their awareness and to inspire creativity.
I am not an architect but am a mechanical engineer would recommend this book for the coffee table and for plain inspiration. If you’ve been to Bali, this is a great book to show your friends. It will also inspire you to visit Bali.

I am Balinese and grew up surrounded by Balinese architecture in my home village of Ubud. I have also built extensively – my restaurant, shops, houses and villas. I love Balinese architectural forms and materials.I am very happy with this book. It is a tremendous contribution to the subject and it is surprising that so little was written before. It is lavishly illustrated with beautiful photographs – many taken by Made Wijaya himself – and sadly many of the buildings no longer exist. Thank goodness, there is now a record of them.It is a coffee table book – but it’s much more than that – the text is detailed, well researched and easy to follow.I have no hesitation in recommending it.
